Patriotic layered ice cubes with blueberries, coconut and strawberries—freeze ahead to chill drinks.

# What You'll Need:

→ Fruit

01 - 1/2 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
02 - 1/2 cup strawberries, hulled and chopped
03 - 1/2 cup coconut meat, fresh, or unsweetened shredded coconut

→ Liquids

04 - 1 cup coconut water
05 - 1 cup natural blueberry juice
06 - 1 cup natural strawberry juice or cranberry juice

# How To Make It:

01 - Rinse blueberries and strawberries thoroughly. Hull and chop strawberries as needed.
02 - Fill each ice cube tray compartment one-third full with blueberries. Add enough blueberry juice to cover the fruit, then freeze for approximately 1 hour or until solid.
03 - Place coconut meat or a sprinkle of unsweetened shredded coconut over the frozen blue layer. Pour coconut water over the coconut to fill the next third of each compartment, then freeze for another hour until set.
04 - Distribute chopped strawberries on top of the coconut layer. Fill each compartment to the top with strawberry juice or cranberry juice. Freeze for at least 2 more hours until completely solid.
05 - Remove the colorful ice cubes from the tray and add to lemonade, sparkling water, or cocktails before serving.

# Expert Hints:

01 -
  • These ice cubes sneak real fruit and natural juices into any drink, so every melt brings a fresh burst of flavor.
  • People ask for your secret every time—because they look much fancier than the effort involved.
02 -
  • Impatience leads to blended layers—a shortcut that looks fun but loses the stripes.
  • Using a pourable glass measuring cup helps you layer without spills or overflow, saving on cleanup.
03 -
  • Letting the tray sit on the counter for a minute makes removing cubes easier and prevents cracks.
  • A dash of citrus juice in any layer keeps colors bright and flavors punchy without overpowering the fruit.
